The most dinghy sailing in the UK by hours and people is almost certainly dinghy cruising, and some of us want to travel further and explore new sailing areas. We are a community of committed dinghy cruisers who are passionate about supporting its growth through our involvement in the Dinghy Trails Project.
We are a friendly and supportive team who warmly welcome new members to our community and value everyone’s contribution, so if you’d like to get involved, please get in touch:
- Join our Facebook group

- Update an existing dinghy trail
- Volunteer to provide information and updates for your local area as an RYA Dinghy Trails Special Interest Group member
- Volunteer to be a site editor and directly input your dinghy trails as an RYA Dinghy Trails Committee member
Promoting Private Slipways and Sponsoring Dinghy Trails
We generally document public slipways, but we are also keen to work with private sailing clubs to gain access to water via their slipways. If you would like us to promote your location as a suitable launch point, and/or are interested in potentially sponsoring a Dinghy Trail, please Contact us.
How can your private organisation be a launch location?
One of the challenges for the dinghy cruiser is access to the water. Public Slipways are not always available, and sailing clubs have some of the best launch locations.
If there is, or could be a way for visiting dinghy sailors to use your slipway, it will increase the opportunities for dinghy cruising.
You can set the rules. For example, you might want to set the hours of the day, days of the week, months of the year, pricing, where road bases, trollies and cars are stored and any other rules. If you open your slipway to dinghy cruising visitors, and there is a good dinghy trail from your location, you can be named as the sponsor for that trail, and we can link to any page on your website. If you are keen to support dinghy cruisers please Contact us.
How can your organisation be a welcoming destination?
If you are a sailing club which can be sailed to, you might want to let visiting dinghy sailors know what you expect from them and what facilities you can offer them. Knowing the expected behaviour as a visitor will give confidence to visitors that they are welcome.
For instance, do you expect visiting dinghy sailors to sign the visitors book? Can they enter your food area in wet clothes? Do you have a wet area and a dry area? Where on the foreshore would you like them to anchor their dinghy.
If you are keen to offer support for dinghy cruisers as a welcoming destination please Contact us.
