Latest News: 5th October 2025 – following internal discussions with the key stakeholders in the RYA, the grading requirement and validation requirement has been removed. The appropriate wording to acknowledge that dinghy trails need updating when they become out of date, and to allow the community access to the dinghy trails, with the request to let the RYA know when a dinghy trail needs updating.

* Grading trails was too complicated given the quantity of changing risks that trails were exposed to (such as wind, speed & direction, tidal conditions etc)

* Different perspectives meant that ‘quality control’ would be too difficult

* Sailing has always been at ’one’s own risk’ and that the Dinghy Trails are no different.

As such it was agreed that there would be no verification process required but that:

* There should be a page clarifying that the trails were unverified and that each person participating did so at their own risk

* Link to the Sail safe – 7 common senses of sailing

( Invitation for feedback on each trail should be actively sought and that those trails without addition feedback should clearly state this

Each trail should have:

* Hazards to avoid
* One column highlighting Things to see/points of interest

Latest News: 10th March 2025 – we have signed up five admins for this site taking us to six in total

We have eight contributors interested in creating new dinghy trails.

We have Simon, Joel, Martin, Akif and Ken joining Steve on the admin team, and between them they are experienced dinghy cruisers across the land and internationally, and will directly contribute their knowledge to porting existing trails and making new ones.

If you are interested in admin or trail creation, please let us know.

Latest News: 22nd December, the project is advertised in the RYA Magazine

The Dinghy Trails project is advertised in the December 2024 edition of the RYA Magazine, including the ways to get involved. If you are interested in keeping the Dinghy Trails up-to-date, and adding to them, please volunteer.

Latest News: 16th November, Two Dinghy Trails have been updated;
